Day 4

We awoke to bright sun and, at last, I was able to sit outside and have my breakfast whilst looking at the view. Mid-morning it was to the coffee lounge again and we got there quicker now that Sheila could walk in a straight line again. Randy came over with the frothy stuff and then Sheila’s friend, Mary, came and joined us. It seemed she had also been at the saucy Liars’ Club last night and the two of them were laughing together about it. I gathered petite Sam had hosted the show and Sue and two other guys were the liars. One was a dishy young man, the activity manager, called Maarten, that all the ladies in the audience seemed to fancy. Mary and Sheila were exclaiming about the very tight trousers he wore. Think they called them ‘drainpipes’. That reminded me of one of your expressions I’ve heard before... like a rat up a drainpipe. Maybe the ladies in the audience watching Maarten would have liked to have run up his drainpipes.

After our coffee break, nothing much happened that you would be interested to read about and after lunch we finally arrived at The Azores. Sheila made sure she had my passport documents, and after we got off the ship I looked around me to see if I could spot an ‘azore’, but as I didn’t know what one looked like, it was a futile task so I gave up. What I could see were lots and lots of boats all clustered together around the dockside and behind were rows of white houses and taller buildings and beyond all of them were hills... all this against a background of a blue sky looked pretty well purrfect to me. AND it was lovely and hot. We strolled along past some little shops and cafes and past the boats. I saw that several of them were taking people on whale watching trips. Aaah, so now I remembered Sheila’s friends Mavis and Peter saying they lived in Whales - maybe they were out here to visit their family. I wouldn’t have minded going on one of these trips, mind you, watching was as far as I would want to go with a whale, too near and it’d have me for a titbit. But it seemed we weren’t going to whale watch, Sheila continued walking along by the sea. It felt really nice to get my paws on dry land again though. I could see that many of the passengers from the ship were strolling along too but there were also people who lived here I suppose and they spoke yet another language I’d never heard. Some of them had dogs with them, but most were small and some were carried about in their owner’s handbags.

We did come across a lady with four little snappy, yappy Chihuahuas who threw themselves right at me. Oh yeah boys, think you can frighten me? Cats can run rings around dogs - wanna see? I
